Our Community Care Programme keeps children and women safe within their communities by addressing risks early, supporting families in crisis, and strengthening local protection systems.

1. Community Empowerment & Awareness

Results:

  • 9,000+ community members reached through awareness sessions

  • 1,556 leaders and officials trained on GBV prevention and response

We partner with elders, schools, women’s groups, and local authorities to raise awareness on:

  • Gender-based violence (GBV)

  • Harmful traditional practices

  • Early marriage

  • Child abuse and neglect

  • Trafficking risks

  • Parenting skills and conflict resolution

2. Educational Support for Vulnerable Children

Results:

  • 35,992 children supported through community child protection

  • 13,864 students received school materials in multiple districts

We support children from the poorest households with:

  • School supplies

  • Financial support for school entry

  • Monitoring and counselling

  • Support to remain in school

3. Community-Based Counselling for Women & Children in Crisis

Results:

  • Hundreds of women and children stabilised each year

  • Many later qualify for Safe House or Economic Empowerment support

Our social workers provide psychosocial first aid, crisis counselling, and referrals for safety and medical care.

4. Support to Minority & Marginalised Communities

Results:

  • 3,164 people reached in Kunama communities

  • 381 people trained on GBV, parenting, and protective practices

We work with groups such as the Kunama community to:

  • Address harmful practices

  • Promote protection and GBV awareness

  • Link vulnerable women to economic empowerment

  • Strengthen social cohesion

5. Strengthening Community Care Coalitions (CCCs)

Impact:
CCCs strengthen local protection systems, help families access support, and ensure communities can address child safety issues sustainably.

6. Baby Package Programme (Infant Survival Support)

For infants unable to breastfeed due to maternal death, medical complications, or trauma.

We provide:

  • Baby formula (1 year)

  • Baby bottles & nipples

  • Clothing

  • Hygiene items

  • Training for caregivers

  • Regular follow-up visits

Results:

  • 2,346 babies enrolled

  • 10,188 tins of formula provided

  • 3,507 hygiene and baby-care kits distributed

Abraham’s Oasis works with Community Care Coalitions (CCCs) -  locally formed groups of elders, women’s groups, teachers, health workers, and volunteers who protect vulnerable children and families at the community level.

CCCs identify risks early, mobilise local support, and ensure families receive help before problems escalate.

What CCCs do:

  • Identify vulnerable children and families through community mapping

  • Conduct home visits and provide basic psychosocial support

  • Link families to health, protection, legal, and social services

  • Raise awareness on GBV, child protection, harmful practices, and positive parenting

  • Mobilise community resources to support families in crisis

  • Work with AO on referrals and coordinated case management

7. Tracing, Reunification & Reintegration

Results:

  • Hundreds of reunifications every year

  • Many children are diverted from long-term institutional care

We reconnect separated children with safe caregivers through:

  • Family tracing

  • Safety assessments

  • Mediation

  • Reintegration support

  • One-year follow-up
